- Measure the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, with the dog standing.
- Two fingers should slide flat under any strap. A whole hand means it is loose enough to reverse out of.
- Snug against the coat, not pulled tight through it — and re-check after a groom.

Fitting a harness on a Weimaraner
This breed has a deep, prominent chest and a very lean waist, creating a sharp tuck-up. The coat is extremely short and sleek, offering no protection against friction from straps. The shoulders are powerful and require a harness that allows for a long, reaching stride.
A harness with a padded chest plate and soft-edged webbing will prevent chafing on the sensitive, thinly-haired skin. An adjustable belly strap is crucial to ensure the harness fits the narrow waist without sliding forward.

How to measure a Weimaraner
Take the measurement at the deepest part of the ribcage, usually just behind the elbows. Ensure the harness is long enough so the girth strap does not sit too close to the armpits, which can cause irritation.
Take a soft tape right around the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. Keep it snug against the coat rather than pulled tight — you should be able to slide two fingers under it.
