- Measure the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, with the dog standing.
- Two fingers should slide flat under any strap. A whole hand means it is loose enough to reverse out of.
- Snug against the coat, not pulled tight through it — and re-check after a groom.

Fitting a harness on a Great Pyrenees
The Great Pyrenees has a broad, deep chest and a very thick, heavy coat that can hide the dog's frame. This breed is large-boned and has a powerful neck and shoulder assembly.
A harness with significant adjustability is required to fit over the heavy coat and broad ribcage. A Y-shaped chest piece is vital to avoid pressure on the neck and to allow the dog to move naturally.

How to measure a Great Pyrenees
Measure at the widest part of the chest, snug against the heavy coat as it lies rather than pressed through to the skin. For adults, choose a size with adjustment either side, as seasonal coat changes move the measurement.
Take a soft tape right around the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. Keep it snug against the coat rather than pulled tight — you should be able to slide two fingers under it.
