What size harness does a Pembroke Welsh Corgi need?

The breed standard puts a Pembroke Welsh Corgi at 10–14kg (22–31lb). Published weight guidance gives a shortlist at 6 of 12 charts. Chest girth is still needed at every chart.

Optional. Each fully grown dog of a named breed adds to that breed’s measured chest range, published on its breed page once twenty are in.

Before you order — the two-finger rule · full measuring guide

  1. Measure the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, with the dog standing.
  2. Two fingers should slide flat under any strap. A whole hand means it is loose enough to reverse out of.
  3. Snug against the coat, not pulled tight through it — and re-check after a groom.

Ranges are transcribed from each manufacturer’s own chart. See the full conversion chart or how we check these numbers.

Fitting a harness on a Pembroke Welsh Corgi

This breed features a surprisingly broad, deep chest and a long back relative to its height. The ribcage extends well back, and the short legs mean the harness sits closer to the ground than on other breeds.

Look for a harness with highly adjustable straps to accommodate the wide chest while fitting the shorter neck. Avoid bulky chest plates that might interfere with the dog's low gait or cause tripping.

The weight shortlist matches Beagle. The same weight candidates can cover dogs with different chest measurements. Use your own tape reading to choose from the charts.

How to measure a Pembroke Welsh Corgi

CHEST GIRTHdeepest part of the ribcagejust behind the front legsNOT THE NECK
Snug against the coat, not pulled tight through it. Measure with your dog standing. Let the dog settle, then check the reading again.

Wrap the tape around the widest part of the chest, usually a few finger-widths behind the front legs. Because this breed is often heavier than its height suggests, do not rely on weight alone for sizing.

Take a soft tape right around the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. Keep it snug against the coat rather than pulled tight — you should be able to slide two fingers under it. That single number, the chest girth, is what every brand on this page sizes by. Weight is only ever a tie-breaker. The full measuring guide covers the mistakes that send harnesses back.
